Reece's Pieces - A dinner for supporting those with brain cancer

Story

Hey, I'm Reece.

I was born and raised in Canberra and have trained as a chef. I have worked all over the world and most recently in London. Last year, my mum Liz was diagnosed with brain cancer and in dedication to her, the fundraising event I will be hosting will be raising money for the organisation 'Peace of Mind'. After the initial diagnosis I had come back to visit for a few weeks and the news was incredibly devastating to our whole family as it led with so much uncertainty. This life changing news struck, but Mum led us on through with positivity, love and humour throughout her whole journey.

It was hard as I was still living overseas but knew she was in the care of my incredible dad, Bruce with the support of my amazing sister Seanne. I had decided to move back home in May 2023 to be able to spend the remaining time with mum and our family.

The event is a set tasting menu and will be held over two days at the restaurant Pilot in Ainslie, Canberra - Sunday lunch and Monday dinner. The menu will be focusing on local Australian ingredients, delicious wine and drinks and of course a dish dedicated to my mums love of cornflakes.

All of the proceeds will go towards the charity 'Peace of Mind' which focuses on giving support to people/families affected by brain cancer. Whilst they don't undertake research into the disease it focuses on the day to day life with quality support, personal care, counselling and community events. This charity has a close connection with our family's situation - Peace of Mind had been providing incredible support through it so it only seems right to focus on trying to give back something in our own way.

So let’s raise a glass (or a few!) to celebrate my beautiful mum Liz and support those living with brain cancer. If you wish to leave a donation for this amazing cause, it will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for all of your support x
Reece
